The U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command requested Lockheed Martin’s support in developing an affordable training aid – focused on the C-130J family and other aircraft – for their special mission aircrews.
Less than six months later, the Lockheed Martin Multi-Function Training Aid (MFTA) was created using Prepar3D®.
Lockheed Martin’s MFTA represents a new generation of training – a quickly reconfigurable platform easily adapted to support a wide range of warfighting vehicle systems, including fixed-wing multi-crew aircraft, helicopters, landing hovercraft, fast attack boats, trucks and utility vehicles. Outfitted with Prepar3D simulation software and UltiSim interactive courseware instructional tools, the MFTA’s value lies in its ability to adapt to the customer’s need for rapidly available and affordable training solutions.
In short, the MFTA tool better prepares servicemen and women to be better prepared in the deployment of their weapon systems and mission execution.
Air Force personnel train on the MFTAs at Cannon, Hurlburt Field and Kirtland Air Force Bases. Lockheed Martin was also selected by the U.S. Air Force Air
Mobility Command to provide six C-130J MFTAs for familiarization and procedural training for C-130J pilots and co-pilots. Lockheed Martin’s aircraft test systems integration lab software including aircraft systems and Operational Flight Plan (OFP) are integrated into the MFTA systems.
Lockheed Martin continues to enhance the MFTA, keeping affordability and adaptability front and center. Examples include control-loaded operator flight controls in addition to the multi-touch side-by-side glass cockpit environment, additional crew station positions, sensors and Distributed Interactive Simulation/High Level Architecture interoperability, among others.
The Multi-Function Training Aid is an example of a rapid, innovative and affordable response to customers needing flexible, configurable training tools. Through the development of technologies like MFTA, Lockheed Martin is committed to helping service men and women reinvent how they prepare for their tomorrow.
